Creating a custom situational awareness map.
A situational awareness map built for the disaster at hand — not a one-size-fits-all template.
What This Will Cover
This cookbook will show how to create a custom situational awareness map for a Director's Brief, tailored to the disaster type. A flood, a wildfire, a hurricane, and a tornado outbreak each call for different layers, different symbology, and a different focus — and the same generic map serves none of them well. The recipe will cover choosing the right base layers in ArcGIS Online (AGOL), adding the hazard-specific layers that matter for the event, and styling the result so a disaster relief operation (DRO) director can read the situation at a glance. It builds directly on the zone layer from Cookbook 01.
